What is tungsten?
Tungsten is a hard, dense, greyish metal that is highly resistant to corrosion and wear. It’s an excellent choice for jewellery due to its durability and hypoallergenic properties.

How do I know what size tungsten ring to order?
To determine your ring size:
We have a free mens ring sizer that you can order by clicking here!
Alternatively,
1. Measure the circumference of your finger using a string or flexible measuring tape.
2. Refer to our size chart here to determine your corresponding ring size.

Is tungsten suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes! Tungsten is hypoallergenic, making it an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. However, if you have a specific allergy or concern, please contact our team for assistance.

How do I care for my tungsten jewellery?
Keep your tungsten jewellery clean and dry. Avoid harsh chemicals and store it separately to prevent scratching. Tungsten is highly scratch resistant, but it can still scratch or damage if not cared for properly.

Is tungsten durable?
Tungsten is incredibly durable and resistant to scratches and corrosion, making it perfect for everyday wear. However, please note that tungsten can shatter if dropped or subjected to heavy impact. It is a great safety feature to be honest and your ring is covered structurally by our lifetime warranty – unless of course you test its impact resistance with a ute, an angle grinder or throwing it off a building (yes! These are all legitimate things our customers have done for fun!)

Is tungsten scratch resistant?
Tungsten is virtually scratch proof. It’s more resistant to scratches than any other metal, making it a great choice for everyday wear.

Will tungsten tarnish or corrode?
No, tungsten is resistant to tarnish and corrosion, making it a great choice for jewellery that will last. However, it can react and change colour slightly when exposed to certain chemicals and elements such as chalk!

How does tungsten compare to other metals?
Tungsten is stronger and more durable than many other metals, including titanium and steel. It has a higher tensile strength, hardness, and density than both titanium and steel, making it an excellent choice for jewellery that needs to withstand heavy wear and tear. Additionally, tungsten is highly resistant to corrosion and wear, making it a great choice for everyday wear. Here’s a brief comparison:

  • Tungsten vs Titanium: Tungsten is stronger and more durable than titanium, with a higher tensile strength and hardness. However, titanium is lighter and more hypoallergenic than tungsten.
  • Tungsten vs Steel: Tungsten is stronger and more durable than steel, with a higher tensile strength and hardness. Steel is more prone to corrosion and wear than tungsten, but is also less expensive.
  • Tungsten vs Gold: Tungsten is much stronger and more durable than gold, with a higher tensile strength and hardness. Gold is a soft, precious metal that is prone to scratching and bending, while tungsten is highly resistant to wear and tear. However, gold has a traditional beauty and value that tungsten does not match.
  • Tungsten vs Ceramic: Tungsten is more scratch-resistant than ceramic, but ceramic is more resistant to cracking and shattering. Ceramic is also lighter and more hypoallergenic than tungsten, but may not be as durable in heavy wear situations.

Overall, tungsten offers a unique combination of strength, durability, and corrosion resistance that makes it an excellent choice for jewellery. However, other metals and materials have their own strengths and weaknesses, and the right choice will depend on your individual needs and preferences.

What type of tungsten do you use?
We use high-quality tungsten carbide, which is a compound made from tungsten and carbon. This material is extremely hard and durable, making it perfect for jewellery. Please note that some tungsten formulas may contain cobalt, which can cause skin irritation and may develop small black burn-like marks over time. We do not use these formulas in our jewellery.

Tungsten with Gold Ion Plating
What is tungsten with gold ion plating?
Tungsten with gold ion plating is a process where a thin layer of gold is deposited onto the tungsten using ion plating technology. This creates a durable and long-lasting gold finish that’s perfect for those who want a luxurious look without sacrificing durability.

How durable is the gold plating?
While tungsten is incredibly strong, the gold plating is still susceptible to wear and tear. The gold can scratch, scuff, or fade over time, especially when exposed to harsh chemicals, hand sanitizers, detergents, or heavy wear and tear.

How do I care for my tungsten jewellery with gold ion plating?
To maintain the gold plating:

  • Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, hand sanitizers, and detergents
  • Refrain from wearing during heavy activities like yard work, gym, or manual labour – grab one of our silicone sidekicks!
  • Store separately to prevent scratching
  • Clean with soft cloth and mild soap water
  • Avoid using abrasive materials or jewellery cleaners

What if the gold plating wears off?
Over time, the gold plating may wear off, exposing the underlying tungsten. This is a normal process, and the tungsten beneath will still be strong and durable. If you’re concerned, contact our team for assistance.

Is tungsten with gold ion plating suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes! The tungsten base metal is hypoallergenic, making it perfect for those with sensitive skin. However, if you have a specific allergy or concern, please contact our team for assistance.

About Our Custom Made Gold Rings

At Mens Rings Online, we’re passionate about creating high-quality, custom made gold rings that exceed our customers’ expectations. Our gold rings are crafted by an Australian jeweller accredited by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), ensuring environmentally friendly and responsibly sourced precious metals.

What types of gold do you offer?
Sustainable Australian 9ct, 14ct, and 18ct gold in white, yellow, or rose gold.

  • 9ct gold: A durable and affordable option, 9ct gold is 37.5% pure gold.
  • 14ct gold: A popular choice, 14ct gold is 58.3% pure gold.
  • 18ct gold: A luxurious option, 18ct gold is 75% pure gold.
  • White gold: A modern and sleek option, white gold is made from gold and other metals.
  • Yellow gold: A classic and traditional option, yellow gold is made from pure gold.
  • Rose gold: A romantic and vintage option, rose gold is made from gold and other metals.

What is the difference between ring thickness and ring width?

  • Ring thickness refers to the depth of the ring, measured in millimeters (mm).
  • Ring width refers to the surface width of the ring, measured in millimeters (mm).

What thickness do you recommend for a gold ring?

  • For men, we recommend a minimum of 1.5mm thickness. Thinner rings may wear quicker and bend easier.
  • For men with an active lifestyle, we recommend 1.7mm thickness for added durability.
  • For those who work with their hands, we recommend 2mm thickness for maximum durability.

Are your gold rings comfortable to wear?
Gold rings are pretty lightweight and comfortable to wear on a daily basis. Most men find wearing a 6mm dome band the most comfortable and if you want it extra comfy try our comfort fit inner band upgrade. Comfort fit rings have a rounded interior, making them more comfortable to wear, especially for those with larger knuckles.

What is comfort fit ring?
The entire inner surface of the wedding band is contoured to allow less of the ring to touch the skin. The ring will slide easily onto the finger to provide a secure and extremely comfortable fit.

Can I return or exchange my gold ring if I’m not satisfied?
Our gold mens rings are custom made to order by our certified Australian jeweller and are unable to be returned or exchanged. However, any local jeweller can resize your ring for you if you find the fit is not spot on.

What finishes can I have on my ring?

  • High polish – bright and shiny.
  • Satin finish – light parallel lines that sharply reduce the metal’s reflections.
  • Brushed – a satin-like finish produced by a metal brush.
  • Hammered – a design created by hammering directly onto the surface of the ring.

Should my ring last forever?
The wear and tear on your ring is going to be a result of your unique lifestyle activities. We suggest that if you are going to do activities that could damage rings, no matter the carat, quality or metal, take them off and store them conscientiously.

How long will an engraved pattern last?
This will depend on the pattern and the wear and tear due to lifestyle activities. Some rings can be re-engraved depending on the style and the age of the ring.

Why does my gold ring get dull or orange in colour?
Most gold jewellery is alloyed with copper, zinc, and silver. Salt in skin acids and other chemicals picked up in daily life create an oxidising or tarnishing effect, usually the less pure the gold the more noticeable the tarnish or dullness.

How do I know what size mens gold ring to order?
We have a free mens ring sizer that you can order by clicking here! Alternatively,

  1. Measure the circumference of your finger using a string or flexible measuring tape.
    2.
Refer to our size chart to determine your corresponding ring size.

Why am I allergic to gold?
Skin discolouration by gold is caused by skin secretions or perspiration containing chloride. When perspiration comes into contact with the copper and silver alloys in gold, it sulphides, producing dark-coloured salts, copper sulphate or silver chloride. 18ct gold is not affected as easily as the lower carat gold’s. Changing to white gold or platinum will usually eliminate the problem. Alternatively you can order any of our modern metals as these are all hypoallergenic – titanium, tungsten, ceramic and silicone.
